- Zarzo Rooftop BarEl PobladoEl Zarzo is the rooftop of the boutique hotel of the same name, on the sixth floor of a Provenza building. It is one of the small ones: the terrace is not chasing capacity but atmosphere, and it shows in the fact that you can hold a conversation.
- Pacho Parrilla #Los AlpesEmblematic grill restaurant in the Los Alpes neighbourhood of Belén: quality charcoal-grilled meats, fair prices, a terrace with a tropical atmosphere and live music at weekends. A favourite of local families and groups who want a good meat skewer without leaving the neighbourhood.
- AlambiqueEl PobladoAlambique defines itself as laboratory, kitchen and bar, and the name is not decorative: the house works by distilling flavours and ideas down to the minimum version of each thing, at the bar as much as on the plate.
- Muska RooftopBelloMuska occupies the ninth floor of the Edificio Isma, on Carrera 50, and is one of the few places in Bello with a terrace at height: from up there you see the town and, beyond it, the valley opening towards Medellín.
- Os MiradorAsomadera / LoretoOs Mirador sits in the upper Las Palmas area, the road climbing from Medellín towards the east, and its argument is the same as every place on that road: the city seen from above, lit up.
- San CarbónInicio Vía Las PalmasSan Carbón has spent fifteen years doing the same thing and doing it well: meat over charcoal, with aged cuts of beef and pork, poultry and fish.
- Sanpetersburgo BarBelloLong-established bar-restaurant in the centre of Bello with a rustic atmosphere decorated with art. It serves artisan burgers, crêpes and grilled meats, with billiards for customers only, live music on Saturdays and 2-for-1 cocktails on Wednesdays. A Bello nightlife classic.
- Uva Café BarBelloSpecialty café-bar since 2012 and a landmark of the Gran Avenida neighbourhood. It blends coffee culture with a quiet night-time atmosphere, and is known for its artisan filter methods (Chemex, V60) and live music nights.
- La Tienda de la 70LaurelesLa Tienda de la 70 is a fonda in the full sense of the word: long tables, aguardiente, deep-plate paisa food and music that never drops in volume.
- Public House MedellínLaurelesPublic House is a pub in the literal sense: a long bar, craft and local beer, food to share and screens.
- Fonda La Vecindad La 70LaurelesLa Vecindad is one of the taverns on the Carrera 70 corridor, on the Bulevar Libertadores de América, and works on the same code as its neighbours: big-plate paisa food, aguardiente and popular music at party volume.
- Los CorralesNorte del ValleFamily country restaurant-bar with a grill, cocktails, live music, horses and a children's area; a popular weekend hangout.
- Despecho PalmasBuenos AiresSala de Despecho arrived at Alto de Las Palmas in 2025 with a very specific premise: a place built for singing despecho without asking permission — in Colombia both a genre and a way of getting through things.
- Salón MálagaLa CandelariaSalón Málaga has been open since 1957, when Gustavo Arteaga founded it on Carrera Bolívar, and it is the tango venue with the longest continuity in downtown Medellín.
Before you go
Live music in Medellín changes completely from place to place: tango and old-time music in a downtown salon, heartbreak songs and rancheras in a fonda on La 70, bands on El Poblado terraces or a rooftop in Bello, and musicians playing alongside the grill in restaurants such as San Carbón or Pacho Parrilla. This collection brings together places where live performance is part of what they offer.
Before you go, it helps to know that music does not play every night everywhere. Many places schedule live sets on certain nights, mostly Thursday, Friday and Saturday, or on special dates. The safest bet is to check their social media or call that same day to confirm who is playing and when it starts.
Some places charge a cover or a surcharge when there is a guest act; ask when you arrive so it does not surprise you on the bill. If you want a table near the stage, arrive early or book, because it fills up on good nights. And in fondas and heartbreak bars, go ahead and sing along: it is part of the plan.
