About Puente de Occidente (José María Villa)
One of the masterpieces of 19th-century civil engineering in Latin America, declared a National Monument of Colombia in 1978. Designed and built between 1887 and 1895 by the Antioquian engineer José María Villa (who took part in building the Brooklyn Bridge in New York), this majestic 291-metre suspension bridge, held up by four wooden towers, crosses the mighty waters of the Cauca River.
Cross its wooden walkway on foot or by moto-taxi listening to the roar of the Cauca, photograph its imposing guayacán wood arches and admire the tropical dry forest landscape.
